Word by Word

Creating myself one word at a time.

Row 80

Row 80It’s a little odd to think that after this post there is only one more midweek check-in for 2013. Pardon me for a moment while I freak out.

Home Alone GIF

My favorite Christmas movie is Home Alone. We’ve already watched it a couple of times.

December has not been nearly as productive on the writing front as I would have hoped. I should know that Christmas events and preparations will consume more of my time than I plan. You see, I tend to make Christmas gifts for folks. They usually aren’t crafts, but I cook. Homemade bread was the hit last year. This year I tried my hand at homemade beauty products. Peppermint scented body butter, sugar scrub and foot soak. It was a fun project my kids and I worked on together.

Christmas gifts

This year’s Christmas gifts are homemade peppermint beauty products. Here are the cute little jars I’m giving.

Bottomline: I need to use my time off next week to get caught up on my writing.

On the upside, a new book idea has popped into my little head. Many ideas are being jotted into a notebook. I’m very excited, but before that can be started I must finish a first draft of my current project.

  1. I can totally relate to not getting in my writing time so far this month. Have a nice holiday and good luck writing next week!

    1. I’m glad I’m not alone!! I see all these people reporting great success with the words and feel all the failure. Happy holidays to you!

I’m likewise not hitting my writing as hard as I feel I should be. I mean, I’ve come up with some ideas and done some worldbuilding but the actual *writing* part of it…yeahhh, not so much.

Also! I saw this on Buzzfeed, have you noticed it? http://www.buzzfeed.com/ryanhatesthis/one-thing-that-youve-definitely-never-noticed-about-home-alo?bffb

    1. MIND BLOWN! I never noticed that his name was on the ticket!!! Thanks for sharing that.

One thing I’ve learned as I’ve been working on my novel is that even time spent thinking about it and world building is still work. I like to say that when you do sit down to write that means things have percolated and are ready to be served to the blank page!

    Courtney,

Your beauty products sound decadent – maybe something my fashion-oriented daughter would love to do with me this winter….where did you find your recipes?

I am also much more in a home and lifetending place, but I don’t see that as I problem. The last two months were intensely absorbed with planning and drafting my NaNo WIP. I need to renew, refill, reconnect, and get myself settled for what is already shaping up to be a snowy upstate New York winter.

I’m giving myself the time to be where I am, and to take in lots of input – which my mind is already churning around in my head.

They’re not ready to be born yet, but they are gestating, and I’ve learned not to fight it.

I hope you will be able to relax, settle in, and enjoy your holidays, because I have a hunch the flow of words will come to us all, soon enough! =)

    1. Yes, gestating. Great description. I figure October and November were months when I pushed hard and letting myself enjoy the month of December is worth it. I’m doing the Women’s Fiction Writers Association “Write-a-Thin” in January. You set one goal and my goal is to finish the WIP.

The beauty products were so much fun to make. My daughter had a lot of fun making them. Here is the link to the blog where I go the recipes and ideas: http://www.thegunnysack.com/2013/11/peppermint-pampering-gifts-in-jars-for-homemade-christmas-gifts.html
